Benjamin was born and raised in the beautiful city of Vallejo, California. Because of the city’s rich and diverse culture, Benjamin has been able to be influenced by many different styles and genres of music, from the well known sly and the family stone, to many of the Latin, and Island groups that would come and play in the area where he grew up.
Being the son of a Pastor, Benjamin is greatly influenced by Gospel music and has been the lead musician at his church, Central City Ministries (Richmond, CA), the last 8 years playing guitar, piano and singing.
After meeting Ken Smith, (High School Band Director) Benjamin has been inspired to pursue a career in music. Benjamin has also been inspired by his college professors- Mike Williams(Guitar), Dr. Michael Zilber (Saxaphone), Dr. Kyle Chuah(Piano), Dr. Jonathan Knight (Trumpet), Erik Jekabson(Trumpet), Jeff Mars(Drums) and Grammy award winner Doug Beavers(Trombone) at Los Medanos College where Benjamin studies Classical and Jazz theory, Composition and Music Education. Benjamin will be continuing is studies in the fall at San Jose State Univerity.
Benjamin has played in The Solano Community College Pro Jazz Band as a guitarist, The Los Medanos College Concert Band and Chamber Ensemble as French Horn player, The Los Medanos College Jazz Ensemble as a Guitarist, Doubling on either French Horn, Valve Trombone and Slide Trombone, The Los Medanos College Gospel Choir as a Guitarist and a Tenor, as well as The Los Medanos College Ensemble as a Guitarist. Outside of Los Medanos College Benjamin has been the leader of various groups such as Central City Ministries Praise Team, The Chris and Benni Duo, The Ben and Tay Duo, and All That Music. Benjamin is also a member of Revive Worship where he plays Lead Guitar and helps with creating music for their original songs. Benjamin also plays as a sideman for various artists in the bay area playing guitar, ukulele, bass guitar and back up vocals.
Benjamin also has Played in various Jazz combos, Rock Combo, and Gospel Groups for community events such as Pista Se Nayon, Vallejo Together’s Community Day, Vallejo’s Famer’s Market, One Voice, 4th of July Festival, Vallejo’s Unity day and ect. Benjamin has performed in location such as, Biscuits and Blues, Downtown Joe’s, Cha-ams, Silo’s, and has also performed for many weddings, and parties.
Currently Benjamin is working on his first 12 track album, “Directions of Heart Flow” with his group “All That Music”. The first song on the album “Beautiful” has been finished and the single “Two in the Morning” will be available in the near coming future.
Benjamin has given guitar, bass guitar and ukulele lessons at Consumers Music, Los Medanos, and at the homes of his students and has also taught many students from the age of 7 to 65 to love music and to know that it is always possible to create and love music.
